‘Doar is mien Va zien laand; ’t Akkertien op de Voorst’
This is a lyric coming from the Vollenhove-anthem. It formed the base of the name for our park, given by the Spans family back in the day. The word ‘ Akkertien ‘ is simply translated as ‘small field’, which was then used for growing potatoes and vegetables.
These fields had a big impact on the culture, considering the saying “ I’m going to the field”. But it was quickly forgotten when the wetlands were dried and the polders came out of the ground. The people of Vollenhove forgot about the ‘fields’ but had a small communal garden. But the name returned by tradition and that is basically the reasoning behind the name.
Piet and Dick Spans started the holidaypark back in 1993 with 10 lots. Father and son Spans took some boats, kajaks and more over from the local tourist information office and the park landscape was prepared for this addition.
This makes sure for a perfect trip with plenty of watery attributes. You can take a boat and go through the lakes and channels straight into the rivertown of Giethoorn, the Dutch’ own version of Venice.
